1. Tell us a little bit about yourself and what brought you to PayStream?
From a young age I’ve always had a creative flare. I remember designing simple websites as soon as I was introduced to the internet, followed by video editing and production. I pursued this interest at university studying Media & Performance and since graduating I found myself working for numerous different marketing agencies, often managing their social media accounts, arranging photoshoots and building pages on their websites. When I saw the marketing role advertised at PayStream, I thought it would be a great way for me to focus all my energy into a single role as well as learn new skills.
2. What is a typical day at PayStream like?
No day is ever the same! I monitor PayStream’s social media channels, scheduling in useful content which will be relevant to both contractors and recruitment agencies. We also work together as a team creating email campaigns, designing promo goods, further developing the PayStream website, running exciting competitions for our contractors as well as anything else which comes along. When we’re not busy with all of that the rest of the conversations in marketing are usually about convincing each other to go to the gym, or whether or not we can get away with eating a piece of chocolate in the afternoon, which is always fun!
3. How does PayStream compare to your previous workplaces?
In the past I’ve worked at places where there is a strict hierarchy in which you can only speak to your immediate team mates or your manager, but this isn’t the case at PayStream. Everyone works together as a team and it’s really refreshing. The marketing department in particular is a really lovely little unit. We have a very positive can-do attitude. We bounce off each other’s ideas and truly work together to produce the best work we can.
4. What do you enjoy most about working at PayStream?
It’s a cliché but it has to be the people I work with. Having a good team around you can really make a big difference to your morale. I’m also part of the ‘PlayStream’ team, a group of staff who plan treats and brainstorm activities for the rest of the company. That can be a really rewarding aspect of the job. A few months ago I had to squeeze 200 pizzas into my little car to deliver to the office – that was fun.
5. What would people be surprised to learn about you?
As well as having an interest in media I’ve also dabbled in acting over the years. I used to attend regular acting classes and had an agent. Nowadays I just do this as a hobby, appearing in local theatre. Last year I won ‘Best Comedy Performance’ at the Manchester Musical Awards for playing Rod in Avenue Q which was pretty cool.
6. What are your favourite things to do outside of work?
I am the proud owner of Ellie the Chihuahua. She is the main focus of my life outside of work. I love going for long walks with her and she is the most caring little dog. Anyone that disses Chihuahuas as a breed has clearly never spent time with them. She’ll out walk a German Shepherd any day of the week!
